What’s on at SHQ – September

By : on : September 6, 2017 comments : (0)

SHQ supports marriage equality

As a pro-choice organisation, SHQ advocates for the removal of barriers that discriminate based on gender, identity or sexual orientation.

We support everyone’s right to marry and have their relationship recognised, just as we support everyone’s choice of partner/s.

It’s time to end marriage discrimination, and its negative health consequences for the LGBTI community, once and for all.

Marriage Equality Postal Survey Counselling

The current Australian Marriage Equality Postal Survey is a difficult time for LGBTIQ people in Australia.

The WA AIDS Council, with assistance from the Government of Western Australia Mental Health Commission, is providing additional and specific counselling in relation to the Postal Survey, from September through to November 2017.

This support is provided in the form of:

  1. Telephone counselling, on 1800 671 130
  2. Face-to-face counselling at our premises and;
  3. Online chat support, via their webpage.

WAAC is strongly encouraging all members of the LGBTIQ community, as well as their loved ones, to get in contact if you are feeling negatively affected during this time.

These services will be available during business hours, 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday.

Important message about unplanned pregnancy support advertising

When it comes to unplanned pregnancy support services, not everything is always as it seems.

While some organisations appear at first glance to be pro-choice, they have subtle ways of implying that terminations are harmful and damaging.

The message? Dig deeper. Ask questions. If you don’t like the answers you get, feel judged or pressured in anyway, walk away and seek help elsewhere.

SHQ offers specialist unplanned pregnancy counselling that allows clients to talk through and find out more information about all the options available to them.

If you’re having difficulty finding an unplanned pregnancy support service that is right for you, we can also help with a referral.

Everyone has a right to non-biased, non-judgemental information and support.

Abortion Experiences Survey WA

This survey, run by WA Labor for Choice, aims to collect information on people’s experiences with pregnancy termination services in Western Australia.

The information will be used to make recommendations to the State Government on how to further improve accessibility, cost and quality of care.

All answers are confidential and will not be shared without express permission. You do not have to share any identifiable information about yourself or the treatment you received.
