New CEO appointed for SHQ
SHQ is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive Officer – Debra Barnes.
With over fifteen years’ experience in CEO, senior executive, and board director roles across both corporate and for-purpose sectors, Debra has extensive experience and a demonstrated track record in delivering strategic leadership, transformational change and operational growth.
Having worked across several clinical settings throughout her career, as a nurse, senior hospital executive, and as a current board member of a healthcare facility, Debra values and has a sound knowledge of clinical governance and its importance in ensuring client safety and high clinical standards.
Debra believes that diversity, inclusion and equality drives creativity and innovation. She advocates for freedom of choice, access to timely, quality healthcare, and for the sexual rights of everyone to be respected, protected and fulfilled, which perfectly mirror the values of SHQ.
Debra welcomed the appointment, saying “I look forward to joining SHQ and working with the dedicated staff at an exciting time for the organisation. My plan is to continue to build on the organisation’s strengths and excellent reputation in the sector while delivering the very best outcomes for the community we serve.”
Debra has spent the past seven years in executive roles at VisAbility Ltd where she led the implementation of an organisation rebrand, restructuring of client services and the implementation of new innovative work practices. Prior to joining VisAbility, Debra was the CEO of the Western Australian General Practice Network and founding CEO of Primary Care WA where she was primarily involved in the development of the WA Primary Health Care Strategy, and provided representation and advocacy on behalf of general practice to both Commonwealth and State governments.
Debra is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management WA, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and she has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia.
