Assessment
All of the theoretical modules are assessable. Nurses are given time (6 weeks) to submit assignments. Nurses are not eligible to complete the clinical practicum until all relevant assessments have been received by the Nurse Educator.
SUPERVISED CLINICAL ATTACHMENT HAS RESUMED IN A LIMITED CAPACITY
Note: All assignments due must be submitted before commencing clinical practicum.
The clinical part for the Certificate course requires approximately 50 hours of clinical training which includes two visits to external agencies.
Options for Clinical Supervision:
- 12 x 3.5 hour clinics at SHQ either in one block or over time, or
- A combination of clinics at SHQ and experience in participants own work place.
Participants are supervised at all times by experienced SHQ Registered Nurses who have been trained in clinical instruction. Discuss your clinical supervision requirements with the Manager of Clinical Education [email protected]
Participants develop specialist clinical skills in sexual and reproductive health nursing practice, including cervical screening. The program can be negotiated to take into account the existing skills of the participant. Details on booking the practicum will be discussed during the theory component of the course.
Clinical supervision places are limited to 1-2 nurses per day to discuss booking for supervised clinical attachment contact the Clinical Education Coordinator [email protected]
Cervical Screening Supervision by an SHQ Nurse in Trainee’s Own Workplace
SHQ instructing nurses may also be available to supervise nurses in their own workplace. The trainee’s workplace is responsible for organizing specific cervical screening clinics and booking all clients. Clinical services are conducted on behalf of a supervising doctor whose Provider Number is used for pathology purposes. This doctor is responsible for the overall care and follow-up of the clients.
Nurses wishing to choose this option must contact the Manager of Clinical Education (email as above) to negotiate the number of hours. This depends on the competency already achieved by the nurse. A minimum of 7 hours is required.
Costs by negotiation.
