The Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia (YACWA) and the Western Australian Association of Youth Workers (WAAYW) have launched a new Youth Work Code of Ethics, which outlines a set of youth work principles and practice responsibilities, identified through consultation with the youth sector. The Code provides interesting, useful, and relevant information to current and future practitioners, particularly for those who identify as youth workers. It also includes very useful case scenarios developed by youth workers to illustrate some of the finer points of each principle when translated into practice.
The Code was formulated on the back of extensive consultation, research and youth sector evaluation and is a reputable and accurate point of reference for all individuals, youth workers and youth work organisations interested in best practice ethical youth work.
The new Code includes four elements:
- Code of Ethics for Youth Workers in WA
- Workplace poster for youth organisations
- Young People’s version of the Code
- Guide to assist with supporting ethical practice in the workplace
