SHQ offers drop-in clinics for people wanting to get tested for sexually transmissible infections (STIs). These clinics operate on a first-come, first-served basis (it is advisable to get there early). Note: these clinics are for people who don’t have any symptoms. If you do have symptoms, such as a rash, itchiness, lumps or discharge, please make an appointment with one of our doctors by phoning 9227 6177.
Drop-in clients with a Medicare card (and who only see a nurse) will have no charge.
If you don’t have a Medicare card, you will be asked to pay a small fee to cover administration costs ($10). You may also be required to pay for any pathology costs (usually covered by Medicare).
If you have a Medicare card, but don’t want to use it, you will be asked to pay a private fee, which will equal the Medicare rebate you would be entitled to. Clients who choose not to use Medicare also need to be aware they will need to pay for any pathology tests (usually covered by Medicare).
Overseas visitors can find out more information about Medicare here.
Please note we are only able to see 10 clients each day (and 7 for training clinics). You are welcome to call us on 9227 6177 to check if we have reached our limit for the day before you come in.
If you’ve had unprotected sex in the past, or it’s been awhile since your last STI test, drop-in to 70 Roe Street Northbridge. Please don’t pass urine (have a wee) for 2 hours beforehand.
