Men’s Health Week June 10th – 16th 2019

This week is Men’s Health Week! Men’s Health Week is about recognising the key health issues faced by men and encouraging them to seek help. Healthy Male (formerly Andrology Australia) have released new resources for Men’s Health Week that you can order online or download here.

SHQ has also released a video encouraging men to get regular STI tests – check it out

Changes to SHQ Medicare Billing

As a non-profit organisation, SHQ is committed to keeping our pricing as low as possible, and to offering services covering all aspects of sexual health. In order to expand the current range of services we offer, we have made the decision to add a gap fee of $15. Priority groups such as those under 25 and those with a Government concession or health care card will be bulk billed (with their consent) with no out of pocket expense. National Survey of Secondary Students and Sexual Health 2018 released!

The National Survey of Secondary Students and Sexual Health 2018 is a national study which explores the sexual health and well-being of Australian adolescents. The report covers topics such as identity, behaviour, STI and BBV knowledge and educational experiences. To check out the full report head here

Women and Family Health Services

Women and Family Health Services are seeking feedback from stakeholders and clients about their services. If you have engaged with Women and Family Health Services head over to their survey and provide them with your experiences of their service.

WA Women’s Health and Wellbeing Policy

The State government is developing a specific policy to address the health inequities faced by women and at-risk groups of women and girls. For more information and to participate in the survey, check out this link here

Family and Domestic Violence Strategy

The Hon. Simone McGurk is seeking feedback from the community about how we can prevent family and domestic violence. Your feedback will be collated to inform the development of a new strategy. For more information or to provide your feedback click on the link here

The Line resources

The Line is an online behaviour change campaign aimed at preventing violence against women. They are in the final stages of developing new resources, and are seeking feedback from professionals. To provide feedback you can fill out this survey here

Abortion stories wanted

Buzzfeed is looking to hear from people who have had an abortion in Australia. These stories will be used to highlight the realities of accessing abortions in this country. You can stay anonymous and only one journalist will access your personal information. To participate follow this link here

ANROWS findings

ANROWS have released findings from their research into utilising peer education models for relationships education and preventing violence against women. You can find out more information, read the full report and download a peer education guide here

IUD Training for Doctors and Nurses 2019

SHQ offers IUD insertion training for doctors and nurses who want to upskill in this area. The training is open to anyone who is registered with AHPRA as a medical practitioner or nurse. Dates for upcoming trainings are:

Nuts and Bolts October 14th – 16th 2019

Relationships and sexual health are what young people want and need to talk about. Nuts and Bolts is an interactive course which engages you in the development of core knowledge, attitudes and skills required to provide information and support for young people around respectful relationships and sexual health. The course runs over three days with a different focus each day.

Tools of the Trade October 17th – 18th 2019

Have you attended our Nuts and Bolts or Bare Essentials training and want to learn about facilitation skills? Do you want to know how you can develop your own sexual health sessions or program? This is the course for you! Tools of the Trade provides you with the knowledge and skills to recognise the sexual health needs of a group, plan sexual health education sessions, and apply group facilitation skills.

Masturbation Month and Clitoris Awareness Week May 6th – 12th

May was both Masturbation Month and Clitoris Awareness Week! We spent the month talking all things masturbation and eating vulva cookies and cupcakes!

Commemorating IDAHOBIT May 17th

IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia) is a day to recognise the discrimination LGBTI+ people face all around the world, and to promote LGBTI+ rights. This year the staff at SHQ held a morning tea and collected donations for LGBTI+ organisations.

National Reconciliation Week May 27th – June 3rd

During National Reconciliation Week, guest speakers came to SHQ to discuss Aboriginal culture and best practice when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Thank you Vivienne Hansen and Brian Councillor for coming to speak to our staff!
