This comprehensive course combines theoretical and practical training to equip doctors, endorsed midwives and nurse practitioners to provide medical abortion care confidently and ethically in their practice. Pharmacists are welcome to enrol in the online modules.
Between one quarter and one third of Australian women will have an abortion in their lifetime, highlighting the importance of clinical education in early abortion care.
SHQ has provided medical abortion services for over 5 years, giving our educators the experience and knowledge to provide up-to-date information and guidance on processes under Western Australian legislation.
There are three components available:
- Essentials of Medical Abortion – this online module will prepare participants to provide a comprehensive service caring for patients with unintended pregnancy who choose to access medical abortion.
- Medical Abortion in Clinical Practice – this online module includes a brief assessment of your knowledge and clinical thinking.
- Supervised clinical attachment in the SHQ clinic at 70 Roe St Northbridge – only available after the two preceding components have been completed.
All stages must be completed within 2 years of enrolment, however the clinical attachment must commence within 6 months of completion of the SHQ online module.
See course structure tab for further information regarding each component.
