The Library and Resource Centre will be closed from December 20th until January 2nd. If you contact us or place an order during this time, we will get back to you as soon as possible after we reopen.

The SHQ Library is open by appointment only on weekdays (excluding public holidays). Please contact the Library and Resource Centre if you would like to arrange a visit to browse or borrow.

The library has a large collection of resources suitable for professionals, students and the general public. Resources include books, journals and DVDs covering all areas of sexual and reproductive health.

Some of the subject areas include:

  • Contraception
  • Conception, pregnancy and birth
  • Women’s and men’s health
  • Sexuality and disability
  • Multicultural health
  • Aboriginal health
  • Ethical, philosophical and religious aspects
  • Gender and sex roles
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Sex education for parents, teachers, and children

We are moving our catalogue to a new system, and online access is currently unavailable. Please contact the Library and Resource Centre with you query, we apologise for the inconvenience.

Educational games, contraceptive kits, condom demonstrators and Magno-mate Reproductive Kits (a magnetic display of male and female reproductive processes) are also available for hire. Kits are available to hire for $13.20 per week (including GST). Each Contraceptive Kit contains a condom demonstrator, additional demonstrators can be provided, subject to availability. Members are welcome to borrow the following:

4 books for 3 weeks

2 DVDs/videos for 1 week

Items can be posted to those in rural areas, and extended loan periods can be arranged. If you would like information on a particular topic, please contact the Library and Resource Centre with your query.

Opening Hours

Open by appointment only on weekdays (excluding public holidays). Please email the library for an appointment.

Returning items can be left with ground floor reception if the library is closed.

Library Contribution

There is no charge to access information but you will need to join the library if you want to borrow items. To join the library it costs $5 per annum. Organisations, such as schools, can join the library for $15 per annum and are entitled to hold three library cards.
