Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

SHQ acknowledges the “Close the Gap” campaign as an important step in working towards improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.  As a group, Indigenous Australians continue to experience widespread disadvantage and heath inequality. To achieve health equality in Australia, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people should be able to access:

  • Quality health care in the location of choice
  • A health care system which is culturally safe and which responds to health needs

SHQ recognises that to achieve health equality more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are needed across the health work force and in the areas of sexual and reproductive health.  To support this, SHQ is offering a scholarship to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals, social workers or counsellors to attend our two-day Unintended Pregnancy Counselling training.

See Unintended Pregnancy Counselling Training for course dates and further details.

SHQ will cover the full cost of the training for the successful applicant, however other costs such as travel, accommodation and meals etc will need to be met by the participant.

Priority will be given to health professionals who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or who work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in WA in the area of reproductive health or unintended pregnancy.

If you are interested in applying tor the scholarship, please contact [email protected].  Applications close two weeks prior to start of each course.
