LGBTIQA+ Diversity Workplace Training

Do you want to improve the quality of your service? Perhaps you are looking to expand your service provision to include marginalised groups? Or maybe your workplace has identified the importance of diversity and inclusion?

At SHQ we’re pleased to offer training to teams and organisations wanting to ensure a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all.

Our interactive training aims to increase people’s knowledge of LGBTIQA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual, or otherwise diverse in sex, sexual orientation, or gender) diversity, and increase their confidence to work inclusively with LGBTIQA+ clients, colleagues, and communities.

The training can be tailored to your organisation’s context and to the needs of your staff and clients. We can come to your workplace at a time that suits you, with options also available for online delivery.

Facilitated by our knowledgeable, highly experienced, and approachable educators, the interactive training combines whole group discussions, videos, and smaller group activities, whilst allowing a safe space for participants to ask questions throughout.

What does the training cover?

Based on evidence and best-practice in LGBTIQA+ inclusion, the training covers…

  • Unpacking the LGBTIQA+ acronym and other key terminology and concepts, including the difference between sex, gender, and sexual orientation;
  • Experiences of LGBTIQA+ people in Australia today, including barriers LGBTIQA+ people face when accessing services and participating in work;
  • Pronouns and how to use respectful, inclusive language;
  • Strategies to address discrimination;
  • Practical ways to support LGBTIQA+ people interpersonally and professionally;
  • Useful resources and referrals.

Who will benefit?

Our training can benefit a wide variety of workplaces, from corporations to government and non-government bodies, teaching institutions to health organisations.

It is appropriate for staff at all levels, including those in client services, sales, administration, management, executive and board levels.

Put simply, everyone can benefit.

Are you a school looking at training for staff around LGBTIQA+ Diversity?

We know support for schools and school staff can be limited on this important topic.

Therefore, we offer a specialised and interactive training designed for school staff to ensure they understand LGBTIQA+ diversity, the experiences of LGBTIQA+ students and practical tips on how schools can work inclusively with LGBTIQA+ students and staff.

We are happy to tailor this training to the needs and context of your school staff and students.

What people are saying about our training

Ruah Community Services has worked with SHQ over many years to upskill our staff, by accessing their LGBTIQA+ diversity and disclosure training.  All 280+ staff members have completed the training, and it has been instrumental is supporting us to achieve Rainbow Tick accreditation and more recently re-accreditation.  The feedback we receive about the training is overwhelmingly positive and SHQ have been very accommodating when it comes to contextualising the training to meet our needs. SHQ facilitators are skilled and create a safe environment for all participants to engage with the content and the experience.  I would recommend SHQ to any organisation who is committed to providing support to their staff, LGBTIQA+ clients and to the community more broadly.”

– RUAH Community Services

Our collaboration with SHQ has been fantastic as we strive to enhance inclusivity for LGBTQIA+ staff and community members in our workplace and Town. Partnering with their experienced educators, we tailored a program to suit the specific needs of our Local Government organisation. The feedback from staff who took part in SHQ’s LGBTQIA+ Diversity and Inclusion training was extremely positive, and we’re excited about future sessions to build on what we’ve learned. We absolutely recommend getting in touch with the SHQ Education team—they really know their stuff!”
