On behalf of the Board of The Family Planning Association of Western Australia trading as Sexual Health Quarters (SHQ), I would like to share that Debra Barnes has advised that she will conclude her role as CEO of SHQ at the end of June 2026.
While we will have another 6 months with Debra at the helm, the Board believes it is important to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution she has made to SHQ over the past six years.
Under her leadership, SHQ has undergone significant growth and transformation. The organisation has strengthened its financial sustainability, grown its footprint, expanded its programs and services, and established itself as a leading, trusted provider of sexual and reproductive healthcare, education and counselling across WA. Debra has led with authenticity, empathy and courage, and deep integrity, embedding a culture of trust, collaboration, learning and accountability.
The Board is particularly proud of the strong organisational culture that has been built during her tenure. This reflects a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and connected to purpose, an achievement that speaks volumes about her leadership and the commitment of our staff.
The timing of this planned transition aligns with the organisation’s forward planning, and the Board has full confidence that SHQ is entering its next chapter from a position of strength.
Over the coming 6 months, the Board will work closely with Debra to ensure a smooth transition and will commence a comprehensive process to recruit and appoint the next CEO. Until then, it is very much business as usual, and Debra remains fully committed to leading the organisation and supporting our people.
On behalf of the Board, we thank our staff, partners, and stakeholders for your ongoing commitment and trust as we move confidently into the future together and extend our gratitude and thanks to Debra for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to SHQ. Her leadership and impact will be felt for many years to come
Maria Quaggan, Board Chair
