SHQ goes to Tom Price
SHQ has held regular face-to-face sexual health clinics in partnership with Nintirri Centre in Tom Price over the past four months.
People in this region face significant barriers to sexual and reproductive health including limited regional health services, high demand for women’s health care, screening avoidance, travel burden, confidentiality concerns in small towns and a lack of consistent female clinicians.
This partnership was developed to fill a clear service gap and provide predictable, specialised women’s and sexual health care in the Pilbara.
Since November 2025, SHQ Medical Director Dr Samantha Johnson has travelled to Tom Price twice and provided 5 days of clinical care, delivering essential services to the region, including:
- 18 cervical screening tests
- 11 STI tests
- 11 menopause consultations
- 6 contraception discussions and initiations
- 2 gynaecologist referrals
- 1 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Assessment
- 1 IUD insertion
Appointment costs were set by the Nintirri Centre, with no out-of-pocket cost for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and all other clients paying a small gap fee.
Organisations interested in partnering with SHQ to provide sexual and reproductive health services in their region can email Samantha.
