Celebrating National Condom Day with SHQ
Every year on the 14th of February (Valentine’s Day!), we celebrate National Condom Day, a campaign to promote safer sex and healthy communication between sexual and romantic partners. The team at SHQ has once again, come together to design fun and informative resources for National Condom Day including posters, condom packs, stickers and more.
We released our print materials in December 2024 and were inundated with orders for posters, condoms and stickers.
Our National Condom Day materials sell out quickly every year, but organisations can still download National Condom Day resources for free from SHQ’s website.
The annual event also provides an opportunity to promote open discussions about sex and sexual health, breaking down stigma and other barriers to sexual health and relationship wellbeing.
Sexual Health Quarters Medical Director, Dr Samantha Johnson said:
“As a leading provider of sexual and reproductive health services in Western Australia, SHQ is well-placed to coordinate this important annual campaign. Our goal is to make every person who visits SHQ feel empowered, comfortable and supported, which is why anyone can walk into our Northbridge clinic and grab free condom packs all year.
“Open and honest conversations about safer sex practices and STIs can empower people to take control of their sexual health.
“Normalising conversations around sexual health and safer sex removes that stigma and means more people can access the support they need. Open and honest conversations about safer sex practices and STIs can empower people to take control of their sexual health.”
Incidence rates for chlamydia and gonorrhoea remain high, so it is important to provide engaging information and supportive resources through initiatives like the National Condom Day campaign. SHQ’s goal is to reduce stress and empower people to take control of their health, leading to better mental health outcomes.
Condoms are the only form of contraception to protect from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV, as well as unwanted pregnancy.
“Pleasure is a natural and healthy part of sexual experiences, and this is reflected in the fun and colourful condom packets, posters, stickers and graphics we have created.”
For some people, browsing the condom aisle at the supermarket or pharmacy can be daunting. Fear of judgement or running into someone you know can discourage people from making that crucial purchase.
Anyone can visit the SHQ clinic during open hours to grab free condoms year-round, giving people an accessible alternative for accessing condoms and information about sexual health.
SHQ’s free condoms are distributed in fun cardboard packaging that protects the condom and contains important information about correct use. It’s a discrete and economical way to ensure more people can practice safer sex.
SHQ is committed to ensuring young people have access to free condoms and the knowledge to use them effectively.
