Mooditj Leader Training is a four-day, hands on course to build the skills and confidence to run Mooditj groups for young people. Aboriginal Educators take a lead role in delivering this culturally safe and fun course.
The Mooditj program has recently been extended. It is now a comprehensive 3-part resilience, relationships and sexual health education program. Please see the Mooditj program outline for more information about Mooditj.
People who want to use the Mooditj program need to attend Mooditj Leader Training. Participants receive detailed manuals for each of the 3 parts of the Mooditj program.
Experienced Mooditj Leaders who are currently delivering the original Mooditj program can apply to attend a 2-day MLT Bridging Course.
See the MLT course structure tab for more information about Mooditj Leader Training and the MLT Bridging Course.
Participants should walk away with:
- Knowledge, skills and confidence to run Mooditj programs
- Practical ways to talk about sensitive issues with young people.
Who would benefit from this course:
Mooditj Leader Training is designed for Aboriginal community members or people who work with young Aboriginal people in their community. Non-Aboriginal people are expected to partner with an Aboriginal person to run Mooditj. Training together is recommended.
If you and your organisation can commit to run a Mooditj group and provide feedback to SHQ, you may be eligible for a discounted registration fee.
If you would like to be put down as an expression of interest for Mooditj Leader Training in 2021, please contact us and select the Community Education option.
Mooditj Leader Training (MLT) is a very practical 4 day hands on course.
Participants experience all of the main learning activities in the program, as well as learning how to run the activities with young people in their communities. Many participants learn a lot about important life skills for themselves too!
The first 2 days cover all of the sessions in the new Mooditj Me and Mooditj Mates programs.
Then over the next 2 days, participants build their knowledge and skills to lead the sexual health component (Mooditj More Than Mates), learn how to teach in the Mooditj way, in small groups have a go at running activities, and think about what they need to do to run a program with their young people.
The MLT Bridging Course consists of the first 2 days of Mooditj leader training.
Times:
9.00am – 4.30pm, Day 1-3
9.00am – 2.30pm, Day 4
If you or your organisation cannot afford the full fee, and you commit to run a Mooditj group and provide feedback to SHQ, you may be eligible for a discount.
You need:
- Support from your organisation to run a Mooditj program – at least 8 sessions
- At least one other trained Mooditj leader. One leader needs to be Aboriginal.
